While Zire’s War frontman Joey Zampella puts the band on ice to tour with his longtime crew, Life of Agony, Zire’s guitarist John Fattoruso’s been busy working on his own project. Fattoruso, who was also in Stereomud with Zampella, has teamed up with Zire’s drummer Felipe Torres. The two are currently working on material for a band called The Deceived. Fattoruso (who, full disclosure, is my fiance) came up with the name while we were driving thru New York City in spring of 2016. We’d been bitching about the political climate, and I happened to say something to the effect of “Well, what does it matter anyway? The government is corrupt. We all think we’re electing leaders who are going to do the right thing for us? We’re the deceived.” And there ya go.
One little twist, this time my future hubs very well could be taking the lead on vocals. It’s not that wild a departure; he sang and played bass in I4NI alongside Bobby Gustafson (formerly of Overkill), Tom Hunting (Exodus drummer) and John Torres (Laaz Rockit) back in San Francisco in the mid-90’s. Same for Five Year Stare with Long Island’s Frank Cannino.
The Deceived hopes to complete it’s roster in the next couple of months. In the meantime, Fattoruso and Torres are spending time at each other’s homes in New Jersey writing riffs and beats, with lyrics on the way soon. Stay tuned.
