EN GARDE: ROUSING ROCK REBELS ENTER SHIKARI MAKING US NERVOUS WITH ELECTRIFYING STATEMENThttps://i1.wp.com/blondeandcrossbones.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ENTERSHIKARI2017.jpg?fit=638%2C426&ssl=1 638 426 Blonde and Crossbones | Juliet Huddy Blonde and Crossbones | Juliet Huddy https://i1.wp.com/blondeandcrossbones.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ENTERSHIKARI2017.jpg?fit=638%2C426&ssl=1
This ain’t your mama’s Enter Shikari. No sir, in this latest video from their upcoming album “THE SPARK”, “Rabble Rouser” takes the UK band to a whole new level, and many say, a whole new direction. An intended glaring departure from their much loved debut album “TAKE TO THE SKIES”, Shikari has kept Rou Reynolds firebrand protest vibe intact –but swerved, flipped, deleted, punched up and slammed pretty much everything else. It’s electric, punk, rock, dance and as one fan says “out there”. But it’s clear where these St. Albans, UK men are going.
As many of you know, I consider Enter Shikari to be the greatest band in music today; for myriad reasons, not the least of which is their sophisticated and technically-on-point music as well as searing lyrics, thanks to Reynolds brilliant, socially conscious, angry political mind.
The song/video “The Last Garrison”, from Shikari’s 2015 smash, “THE MINDSWEEP” in my mind is one of the best examples of lyricism in music — EVER. It was pissed off, hopeful, viciously angry and beautiful all at the same time. Reynolds, like Stone Sour/Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, is frustrated with the state of the world today. Unlike Taylor, though, Reynolds seems to feel there is a light somewhere, probably very far away, but there nonetheless, at the end of the tunnel.
